For over 30 years the Cork Adult Education Council (CAEC), supported by the City of Cork VEC and Cork City Council, has organised the annual Adult Education & Training Exhibition in City Hall. This year it takes place from Tuesday September 4 to Thursday September 6 and, as usual, admission is free.
It’s open for two evenings (Tuesday September 4 and Thursday September 6 from 5pm – 9pm) and on Wednesday September 5 for the afternoon from 12.30pm – 6pm.
There are more than 70 stands offering courses of all kinds – among exhibitors are UCC, CIT, FÁS, City of Cork VEC, County Cork VEC, community schools, as well as voluntary groups, colleges and organisations from the private sector.
In more prosperous times many of the courses offered by exhibitors were for leisure and, while many continue to offer those choices, the Cork Adult Education Council believes that today it is very important to encourage the public to also explore their options for retraining, upskilling, perhaps changing career.
That’s why an *Information Session* has been organised on *Wednesday September 5 at 2pm*, aimed mainly at the unemployed or those in danger of losing their jobs. Everyone is welcome to come along and hear short presentations from the VEC Adult Guidance Service & the Department of Social Protection. You’ll hear about courses for adults, how to apply for them, what supports are available. It costs nothing to be there. There’s a friendly atmosphere, with free refreshments and your questions are encouraged. It’s a great opportunity to find out about your choices and what financial and other help is available for those taking up a training or education course.
On *Thursday evening, September 6, at 7pm there’s a CV Workshop* – bring your CV along and find out how you can make it work for you when seeking employment.
The Information Session & CV Workshop take place in the foyer of the Millennium Hall, next to the Concert Hall. Free refreshments are available and it costs nothing to attend.
