What: Engineers Ireland Cork Region Event – Winter Lecture Series: Invasive Alien Plant Species and Engineering Projects

Dr Vincent O’Malley, Head of Environmental Policy and Compliance at Transport Infrastructure Ireland will talk about Invasive Alien Plant Species and Engineering Projects as part of the Winter Lecture Series organised by the Cork Branch of Engineers Ireland.
Japanese Knotweed is one of the most invasive species and the estimated damage caused by it, in Ireland, is €266 million annually. It has the potential to damage buildings, light rail, road foundations and bridges. It is particularly invasive because it is fast growing, can grow through concrete and tarmac, and can grow up to 3 metres deep. Other alien plants posing a threat include Giant Hogweed, Giant Rubarb and Himalayan Blasam.
The talk will be at 7pm on Tuesday November 29th, in the Rochestown Park Hotel – admission is Free and open to all.
