Youghal RNLI volunteer lifeboat crew were tasked to launch today at 11.30am to reports of a angler taken ill on board a chartered fishing vessel.
The casualty a male was reported as conscious but pale, the volunteer lifeboat crew proceeded to the location approximately a mile and a half off Capel Island where the fishing vessel was located, the casualty had been unconscious but since regained consciousness before the lifeboat arrived at the location. The crew recovered the man on board the lifeboat and proceeded to administer casualty care.
An ambulance was requested and was awaiting the lifeboat on its return to the lifeboat station where the ambulance crew check him over before giving him the all clear and left on his way.
The conditions on the day were choppy with a moderate easterly breeze.
Commenting on the callout Youghal RNLI Lifeboat Helm John Griffin said, ‘They did the right thing in contacting us when the man became unwell, it’s always better to get them checked out correctly.’
