The Lord Mayor of Cork City, Cllr. Des Cahill, intends to work with Cork Chamber and IDA Ireland to ensure that Cork is well positioned to benefit from Brexit.

The Lord Mayor said:
“The world’s leading companies are located in Cork because they recognise the fantastic blend of talent due to our third level Institutions and the blend of lifestyle available on our doorstep which is varied and diverse. Brexit decision is bad for Europe but the opportunity for Cork City to attract companies wishing to leave the UK should not be wasted.”
He indicated that he will meet the Chief Executive of Cork Chamber this week and discuss how they can realise this unique opportunity with the help of IDA Ireland.
The Lord Mayor also stated that
“A simple slogan of ‘The world’s leading companies are here, so should you’ should prompt the interest of these companies. Cork city has large sites, with planning permission and developers ready to go at Anderson Quay, South Terrace, Sullivans Quay and in the Docklands, along with some recently completed premium quality office blocks”.
He also stressed that the issue of transatlantic flights to Cork must be resolved. The Open Skies Agreement between the US and Europe must be honoured, now more than ever. The agreement between the two continents is clear. The permission by the Americans is not only required, it is part of US/Europe policy.
The Lord Mayor looks forward to working with the Chamber of Commerce and the IDA on this incredibly important opportunity for Cork City.
