Ken Wardrop’s MOM AND ME opens at Triskel Christchurch Cinema Saturday 16 July and runs until Wednesday 20 July. Wardrop will visit Cork Wednesday 20 July to do a live post screening Q&A session.
Speaking on the upcoming release, Director Ken Wardrop said “I’m delighted to have the opportunity to once again be working with Element Distribution. We had an incredible journey with His & Hers and I’m hopeful that MOM AND ME will similarly capture the hearts of Irish audiences.” Element Pictures Distribution similarly are delighted to acquire the Irish & UK rights to Ken Wardrop’s MOM AND ME. Ken and Element previously worked together on the release of the critically acclaimed and box-office hit His & Hers in 2010 which remains the highest-grossing Irish documentary of all time.
With MOM AND ME, Wardrop weaves an exquisitely sympathetic portrait of what mothers mean to their sons in this charming and touching film, showing a vulnerable side of American masculinity that viewers rarely see. These Oklahoma men come from all walks of life, ranging from a war veteran and a prison inmate to a cowboy preacher and a district attorney. Their mothers are just as complicated: spunky, resilient, demanding, generous, and iconoclastic. As these mothers and sons ride horses, shoot guns, and discuss their deepest feelings, Wardrop’s compassionate observation reveals the universality that underlies this most particular relationship.
MOM AND ME is directed by Ken Wardrop and produced by Andrew Freedman with backing from The Irish Film Board.
MOM AND ME premiered at the 2015 Telluride Film Festival to rave reviews with The Guardian awarding the film 4 **** calling it ‘A devastating study of motherly love in US’s manliest state”. MOM AND ME is also nominated for Best Feature Documentary at the 2016 IFTA’s.
