Ballincollig Business Association has invested in 30 litter pickers, which have been given out to local businesses free of charge. The initiative, in partnership with Ballincollig Tidy Towns, is aimed at encouraging local businesses take time each day to ensure the environment around their premises is litter-free.
At the presentation of some of the litter pickers, Emer Cassidy, Chairperson of the Ballincollig Business Association, said: “Not only is the initiative good for the community in Ballincollig and local environment, but it’s also great to see businesses keeping their surroundings clean for their customers. We are confident that it will encourage more businesses in the town to contribute to this worthy community effort and keep the surrounding areas of their premises litter-free.”
Cassidy also praised the valiant efforts of the volunteers of Ballincollig Tidy Towns: “The volunteers have contributed greatly to the pristine image Ballincollig has long become associated with over the past number of years. Much of the work that they do goes unrecognised and credit must be given to their tireless efforts.
“I’ve no doubt that this new initiative will complement the work that the Tidy Towns volunteers do to upkeep the streets of our beautiful town, of which we are all very proud.”
Chairperson of Ballincollig Tidy Towns, Tom Butler, welcomed the new joint initiative: “It’s a positive move by the Ballincollig Business Association to actively engage with the local business community to promote keeping Ballincollig an attractive town to live, visit and do business.’’
Ballincollig Tidy Towns is over 70 volunteers strong and over the last eight years it has won four Gold, two Silver and three Bronze medals in the National Tidy Towns Competition.
Ballincollig Tidy Towns is already supported by a number of local business and organisations in Ballincollig, in particular SuperValu, VMWare and Ballincollig Shopping Centre.
