The problem of people abandoning dead or neglected horses in North Cork is growing.
That’s the message from City Councillor Michael O’Connell.
Gardai confirmed at a meeting of the Cities Joint Policing Commitee that the number or horses being found is on the increase.
Earlier this year the I-S-P-C-A highlighted the issue and said the recession is a contributing factor.
Some horses have become cheap to purchase, but are still expensive to take care of.
Labour’s Michael O’Connell says up to 14 horses have been found dead on a pitch at one North Side school. Each time the School is having to pay around 400 Euro to have the carcas removed.
Cllr O’Connell says the solution is to prosecute people , and send a message that Horses need to be cared for properly
