A series of events will be held in Cobh from 18th to 24th April to mark the centenary of the 1916 Rising and the role of the Cobh Volunteers and others in the momentous events of 100 years ago.
The Cobh 1916 Commemoration Committee will be unveiling a number of memorials on next Saturday / Sunday 23 and 24th April to mark the centenary as well as holding a week of nightly lectures on 1916 in Cobh Library. The lectures run from Monday 18th to Friday 22nd April and
feature a number of Cobh and Cork speakers talking about various aspects of the Rising.
The highlight of the week will be Saturday 23rd April when a re-enactment of the mobilisation of Cobh Volunteers and plaque unveiling will be held at Tay Road, Ballywilliam (near the county council yard) at 1pm, followed by the unveiling of a monument at West Beach / Pearse Square at 3pm and musical performances in front of Cobh Library.
On Sunday, 24th April there will be a gathering at 3pm at West View for the dedication of a memorial garden, followed by a reading of the Proclamation and a wreath laying ceremony at the James Connolly plaque in front of the Rob Roy bar. The ceremonies will conclude with performance by the Cork Rokk Choir at the Commodore Hotel at 4.45pm.
