Northside Fiànna Fàil Councillor Kenneth O’Flynn has welcomed the news that Cork Civic Trust will be placing a proposal before Minister for Justice Frances Fitzgerald offering to purchase the property known as Westview House on St Patrick’s Hill, the house that recently made headlines after the announcement of an open prison step/down facility that is being planned by the Department of Justice.
Cllr. Kenneth O’Flynn said “I believe that this is a very tangible solution for the Department of Justice to sell the building to such a well-known and prominent organization with a track record of conservation and project management in our City”.
It is believed that Cork Civic Trust, if successful in acquiring the building would be focusing on international relations with a number of Civic projects including Diaspora tourism and the promoting of Civic services of benefit to Cork City and County.
Chairman of the Civic Trust Michael Mulcahy and CEO of Cork Civic Trust John X Miller have met with Cllr. O’Flynn on two occasions to formulate a proposal that is expected to be sent to Minister Fitzgerald in the coming days
