Fine Gael TD for Cork South West, Jim Daly, is continuing to push for the completion of the Bandon Flood Relief Scheme and has been informed by the Office of Public Works (OPW) that the Scheme is on track and will be confirmed in the coming weeks.
“Since my re-election by the people of Cork South West, I have continued to keep up the pressure in relation to the Bandon Flood Relief Scheme. As the people of Bandon will know, it is imperative that we continue to move on this and ensure that there are no delays to this much needed Scheme.
“I am pleased to confirm that the OPW have written to me directly outlining that the Bandon Flood Relief Scheme is still on track with both the confirmation process and the tender competition for the appointment of a contractor.
“In relation to the confirmation process, the OPW expects to receive confirmation from the Department of Public Expenditure and Reform within the next week or so. There will then need to be an eight week period in which an appeal could be taken if necessary.
“The process to appoint a contractor is moving along at pace, with tenders received in January. The assessment of these tenders is almost complete and it is hoped that a contractor will be appointed in May, meaning works can commence shortly afterwards.
“All of this means that we are on track for the timetable laid out by Minister for the OPW Simon Harris, when I brought him to Bandon before Christmas.
“I will continue to keep on top of this matter and ensure that the Bandon Flood Relief Scheme remains on track. It must be completed in good time to ensure that much needed flood protection is given to the homes and businesses of Bandon and surrounding areas.”
