Two Cobh Councillors are calling on the County Council to something about the “Fota Road”
The R624, which passes by the entrances of the Fota Island Hotel, Golf course, and Wildlife park, is the only route in and out of Cobh, and Great Island.
Only four weeks ago a young woman was tragically killed on the Fota Road, and it remained closed for serveral hours for a Garda investigation. On other occasions the road has been flooded.
A modern, straighted road would cost 30 million euro and plans have been shelved, but it might be possible to use an internal demesne road within Fota during emergencies.
Cork County Council’s Senior Engineer Noel O’Keeffe will raise the matter with Cobh Gardai and landowners in Fota to see if this is might be a viable option.
Speaking to TheCork.ie Councillor John Mulvihill Senior says the Cobh train service and Crossriver Car Ferry are valuable, but most road traffic needs to use the “Fota Road”
