Event registration for National Heritage Week 2015 is now open and
this year we want to shine a light on Ireland’s Industrial and Design
Heritage. So if you would like to include your local heritage project
in this year’s programme, please register it now for National Heritage
Week 22nd- 30th August 2015. Last year over 400,000 people
participated in 1800 events around the country including historical
walks and talks, workshops, archaeological digs, historical
re-enactments, most of which were free.
Why choose our Industrial and Design Heritage as a focus for of the
tenth National Heritage Week? Canals, mines, breweries, potteries,
forges, railways and cotton mills can often tell us as much about our
heritage as celebrated archeological sites, cathedrals and large
country houses. In fact our industrial past tells the story of change,
development and creativity in Ireland and National Heritage Week 2015
is the perfect time to find out more about this fascinating, but often
neglected aspect of our past.
With National Heritage Week we want to celebrate the work of thousands
of local enthusiasts and experts who give their time to the
preservation and protection of our national heritage. It is also a
fantastic opportunity for the whole family to explore their local
community and see it through the fascinating perspective of heritage”
Michael Starrett CEO of National Heritage Council.
The deadline for inclusion in the National Heritage Week print guide
is the 31st May 2015 however it is possible to continue to upload
events for the National Heritage Week’s online listings right up until
the 22nd August when the celebrations begin. All events are subject to
approval. Participants are encouraged to incorporate the industrial
heritage theme into their project where possible.
If participants cannot register online, the National Heritage Week can
send you a registration form by post. For further information contact
