The game will be on 1st February 2015. UCD Waves will be the visitors
to Bishopstown Stadium this Sunday with a 2pm kick off. Cork City
looking to bounce back from their heavy defeat in Wexford.
The Leesiders were hard hit last week after conceding ten goals
against league leaders Wexford. Suffering a red card in the opening
minute as well as several injuries saw City finish the game with only
nine players on the field. Manager Charlie Lynch knows they are in for
a tough game against UCD Waves following a draining game in Wexford
but is determined to rally his troops for the Dublin side “We were
badly hit with the sending off in the opening minute in Wexford but we
showed some naivety in our play following the decision and got
punished by a good side. It’ll be a difficult game against Wexford as
we are badly hit with injuries and suspensions coming into the game,
but I have faith in my squad to dig deep and try to get a result.” The
Dublin club won the earlier games against City this season 4-0 and
7-2, leaving the Leesiders with a difficult task of overhauling the
Waves.
The squad looks a little light coming into the game with Ciara
McNamara suspended following her red card against Wexford, while
Nicole Smith, Laura Medbury and Tara Murphy are all still unavailable.
Nathalie O’Brien has recovered from her broken leg but is still not
back in full training for this game so is unlikely to feature, while
Angie Carry is a doubt after sustaining an injury in the second half
in the last game. New signings Rachel Harty and Marina
PenteñoBustillos will be available for selection but defender Norma
Healy will miss out after suffering a broken nose in a clash with
Shauna Wall in the Wexford game. Chloe Ahern and Emer Gilroy are
unavailable due to study commitments but Katie McCarthy will be back
in the squad after missing last weekend’s game.
Cork City have also recently announced a new U18 Academy in
partnership with Cork Women’s and Schoolgirls Soccer League which will
commence on the 31st January in Bishopstown Stadium. Attendance at the
academy costs €60, but this fee includes a training top and jersey.
Registration will close on the 28th January so potential players are
asked to contact the club on their website or at
info@corkcitywomensfc.com.
