Cork South West T.D Michael McCarthy has welcomed a substantial
funding allocation for Cork County Council as part of the Governments
energy efficiency programme.
“The overall funding allocation for Cork County Council will be
€451,724.00. Minister Jan O’Sullivan recently announced a €50m three
year energy efficiency investment programme for local authority homes.
This is a key part of the Government’s €150m capital investment in the
economy over 2013 – 2014. This is the first tranche of that funding
to be released.
The measures will target the least energy efficient local authority
homes. This will result in warmer homes and lower energy bills for
thousands of families and will also create more than 1000 jobs in the
sector.
The initiative will also see a reduction in our carbon emissions,
which an important contribution to Ireland’s climate change strategy.
This insulation programme will save energy, save money and create
jobs. It will help families, elderly individuals and couples to live
in warmer, more comfortable homes.
Labour is spending money in our local community and delivering on our
commitment to create jobs in the green sector.”
