Fianna Fáil TD for Cork South Central, Micheál Martin, has welcomed the
announcement that 60 new jobs are to be created at internet security firm
McAfee in City Gate, Mahon.
Deputy Martin commented: “The news today that McAfee is to create 60 new
software engineering jobs at its premises in Mahon is most welcome. This is
a significant development and by establishing their Global Research and
Development Centre of Excellence in Cork, McAfee is acknowledging the
standard of employee and opportunities for expansion that exists in Cork.
“The local economy here in Cork will also benefit from the jobs
announcement and I know there is a significant pool of talent to draw from.
There has always been strong investment in education and research and
development in Cork and hopefully it will encourage more companies to
locate both global and European operations here.
“The highly skilled and educated graduates we have from both UCC and CIT
will ensure a rich supply of applicants for the new positions. I would also
like to praise the IDA and all the relevant bodies that worked with McAfee
in its expansion plans.”
