Long-time public servant Valerie O’Sullivan is set become the temporary chief executive (CE) when Tim Lucey leaves the role in October 2023. Cork’s other Local Authority – Cork City Council – has had a female CE since Ann Doherty was appointed in 2014. Valerie O’Sullivan’s CV includes senior roles in Cork City Council, before she moved to Cork County Council as divisional manager for the ‘south Cork’ division, in 2019. A role that includes countywide responsibility for the three Directorates of Planning, Roads, and Municipal districts (MD’s).
