CARA
Carrigaline Active Retirement Association took 30 members on a four day outing to Mullingar last week. They left Carrigaline on Tuesday morning and had stops in Cashel and Portlaoise on the way up before arriving at Bloomfield House Hotel in Mullingar where they stayed for 3 nights. On Wednesday they had a guided tour of Clonmacnoise which they enjoyed and was very interesting and they visited Athlone after that. On Thursday CARA went to visit Multifarnham Friary Church and grounds in the morning and went into Mullingar town for lunch and then went to Belvedere House & Gardens which they found to be a lovely place. On Friday morning they left the Hotel at 10.30 and on their way home they visited Newbridge Silverware for refreshments and some shopping, lots of purchases were made there. Back on the bus again for Tipperary, called to Horse & Jockey where they had a beautiful meal, a good finish to a successful trip and the happy crew arrived back in Carrigaline around 7pm. Next Thursday May 18th CARA are in the Community Complex for exercises with Anne O’Brien from 2.30pm.
Pioneers
The Mid West Cork Pioneer Council met in Bandon Parish Centre last Wednesday to make final arrangements for the annual Pioneer Diocesan Mass which will be celebrated in St Patrick’s Church in Bandon on Friday June 9th at 7.30pm. The Mass will be celebrated by Fr John Newman PP. Refreshments will be served in the Parish Centre after Mass. Anyone due for silver, gold or diamond (60 yrs.) pins, which will be presented at the Mass, please contact your local Pioneer Centre, Teresa Mc Carthy between 10.00am and 12 noon, Aislinn Cogan 087 9699 or Sheila Murphy 087 768 6112. Anyone wishing to join the Pioneers, contact the above. All are welcome to attend the Mass.
Men’s Shed
The Carrigaline Men’s Shed choir will give a performance for the residents and staff of Douglas Care Home on Tuesday May 30th. The choir practice every Tuesday at 10.30am, new members are welcome. The Shed choir are going on their annual outing on Tuesday June 28th, this year they are going to Kilgarvan, Kenmare and Glengarriff. The Shedders are making every effort to make their Shed curtilage presentable for the official opening on Saturday July 8th. The Shed was gifted some wood for upcycling this week. The next Aifreann trí Gaeilge will be on Sunday June 11th at 10.00 am beidh billeoga Aifrinn ar fáil ag na dóirse.
Litter League
Carrigaline Tidy Towns volunteers put in extra shifts on Saturday, Sunday and Monday picking up other people’s litter. Thanks to their effort the town centre is looking better than ever. Most of the approach roads have been cleaned during April Clean Up month. The county litter league will continue for the next few weeks and the Tidy Towns have a rota of volunteers organised. More volunteers welcome, call to HQ any Tuesday at 10.00am, Wednesday 7.00pm or Saturday at 9.30am. Comhaltas
Comhaltas na Dúglaise held their confined Feis Ceoil in the Gaelscoil on Sunday last. It provided a great opportunity for children of the same age groups, but playing different instruments, to compete in a pressure free environment. Bean a”Tí was Niamh Ní Mhaoláin, adjudicator was Matty Fahy from Dungarvan both who made it a very enjoyable event.
All the members who qualified for the Munster Fleadh and those who are doing SCT exams continue with classes every Wednesday evening. The branch will hold the annual Church Gate collection on the weekend of May 27th and 28th in Ballyphehane and the Lough.
Sustainable Energy Committee
The Carrigaline Sustainable Energy Community committee are studying the final draft of the Sustainable Energy Master Plan for Carrigaline. When it is agreed with their consultants, Plan Energy Consulting Ltd, it is intended that the plan will be printed and launched before the end of this month.
First Holy Communions
110 children from Carrigaline Holy Well National School received their First Holy Communion in the church of Our Lady and St John on Saturday morning last. Mass was celebrated by Fr Aidan Cremen CC assisted by Fr James Mc Sweeney PP. This Saturday 71 children from the Gaelscoil will receive their First Holy Communion.
