Marymount University Hospital and Hospice is holding its annual Light Up a Life Ceremony on its hospital grounds in Curraheen, on Sunday 1st December from 3pm to 6pm. Special guest this year is Donncha O’Callaghan who will officially light the lights at Marymount campus. The events on the day will be MC-ed by our very own Bibi Baskin with a Christmas market on site and four fantastic choirs – The Light Up a Life Ceremony is a special occasion for the hospital and hospice for people to gather together to watch the Christmas lights being switched on as well as enjoy entertainment from the Army Band of the 1st Brigade, Sonatinas Glanmire Choir, Cork City Male Voice Choir and Frankfield Gospel Choir.
The winning ticket from the Marymount Car Draw will also be pulled just before the Light Up a Life ceremony.
Marymount is open to the public on the day with festive stalls and tea and coffee available to all visitors. Children’s activities will also be available.
“We would like to encourage people to come to our Light Up a Life Ceremony here at Marymount on Sunday 3rd December from 3pm to 6pm. We are very grateful to Donncha and Bibi who are giving of their time in order to help us make sure the event is a success,” said Sarah McCloskey, CEO of Marymount. “Light Up a Life is a very special and poignant event. Christmas can be a difficult time and our Light Up a Life ceremony is a very symbolic way of us joining together as a community and lighting up our facility here in Marymount.”
People can sponsor lights on the Marymount Christmas tree in person on the day or online at https://lightupalife.
As well as a significant symbolic event, Marymount’s Light Up a Life appeal is also an important fundraising campaign for the hospice, which needs to raise €3.5 million every year to continue to provide its existing level of services. “We are indebted to the people of Cork for supporting Marymount as much as they do and as often as they do,” explained Dr McCloskey. “It really is due to people’s generosity that we are here in our great facility in Curraheen. I would like to invite the people of Cork to attend our Light Up a Life ceremony so they can see the service and facility for themselves.”
