Mayor of the County of Cork, Cllr. Christopher O’ Sullivan today welcomed news that Cork County Council has been successful in securing government funding of over €2.6million for rural regeneration in the towns of Macroom and Kanturk in County Cork.
The Government’s Rural Regeneration and Development Fund (RRDF) has been established to support rural renewal and build resilience in rural communities. Today’s announcement by the Minister for Rural and Community Development, Michael Ring includes an allocation of €2million towards the Briery Gap redevelopment in Macroom. This is in addition to Cork County Council’s commitment to invest over € 2.7million in the project, and the recent allocation of €600,000 from the Department of Arts, Heritage and the Gaeltacht.
Funding of €619,500 was today announced by the Minister for the town of Kanturk in North Cork towards the delivery of infrastructural development works that will facilitate the future growth and development of the town. The proposed new infrastructure aims to alleviate traffic congestion and facilitate new employment and economic development opportunities, and will build upon Cork County Council’s commitment to invest over €370,000 of its own resources in the project.
Speaking following today’s announcement, Mayor of the County of Cork, Cllr. Christopher O’ Sullivan noted that “This is great news for County Cork. A huge amount of work has gone into bringing both projects to this stage and credit is due to everyone involved. The significant sums awarded to these projects are reflective of Cork County Council’s investment in and commitment to the regeneration and development of our rural towns .”
