North Cork Fine Gael Councillor John Paul O’Shea has this week welcomed a significant increase in funding of more than €2 million to bring the total funding allocation in the Kanturk/Mallow Municipal District Budgetary Plan for 2020 to just over €13.5 million.
Cllr O’Shea has also welcomed proposals from the Council Executive to increase funding for the General Municipal Allocation (GMA) – Community Grants to Communities – from €235,000 to €284,913. The Town Development Fund is to increase €8,000 to €139,000 while the Village Renewal Fund is to increase by €6,250 to €68,750. The Fund for the presentation to our Towns and Villages is to also increase for 2020 by €46,051 to €202,218.
“I am very pleased to see the increases in funding contained within the municipal district’s draft budgetary plan for the coming year, pushing the total budget for the schedule of works over the €13.5 million mark. Funds like the GMA, Town Development Fund and Village Renewal Fund are all very welcomed funding for our communities and are all very well sought after.
Cllr. O’Shea added “Our budgetary plan takes into account everything from road transport & safety, water services, environmental services, recreation & amenity, agriculture, education, and health & welfare in the Kanturk/Mallow area. An increased budget gives us as a municipal authority more scope to improve public services and this must be welcomed”.
