Talk on Native Birds in Ireland and Bird Migration
A very interesting talk on “Native Birds in Ireland and Bird Migration” will be held in Nano Nagle Birthplace at Ballygriffin, near Killavullen on Saturday, 7 September at 11am. It will be delivered by Dr. Tom Kelly who is retired from the School of Biological, Earth and Environmental Sciences in UCC. Dr. Kelly has published extensively, and delivered numerous talks on environmental issues.
His illustrated talk will cover birds native to Ireland as well as those who visit here from Africa and Scandinavia to breed during the summer months. He has been involved for years in the ringing and tracking of birds. In recent years, the affixing of battery or solar operated tracking devices has helped to provide a lot of research on the routes taken by migratory birds. Bookings can be made to 022-26411.
Killavullen Farmers’ Market will also be held on the grounds on Saturday from 10.30am until 1pm selling locally grown vegetables and fruit, as well as home baking.
Later that day at 2pm, the Global Garden celebrating the tercentenary of the birth of Nano Nagle will be opened at the centre. So, it will be a busy day around the grounds.
