Cork South West Fine Gael TD and Minister of State at the Department of Health, Jim Daly, has confirmed that further substantial progress has been made in the delivery of a new National School at Summercove.
Speaking, Minister Daly said, ‘I can confirm that the Department of Education have this week formally written to the board of management at Summercove National School advising that they are now progressing the project to the design and planning phase’.
‘This is another significant step for the board of management, teachers and community at Summercove showing real progress in their plans to get a new National School.’
In a letter from the Department of Education to the board of management at the school, the department confirmed that their application has now moved to the design and planning stage. This means that the department will now appoint a design team who will complete an outline and detailed design which will then be submitted to Cork County Council for planning.
‘Last March, I arranged for a meeting with Minister McHugh and members of the board of management along with Principal Collette Lucey in a bid to progress the need for a new national school in Summer Cove. It was at this meeting that Minister McHugh confirmed that the school would be the first in Ireland to be placed on the next Department of Education Capital Plan. ‘
Minister Daly concluded by committing to continue working closely with the school and the department in the months ahead, ‘the board of management in Summer Cove are an extremely hard working group of people, and I will continue working closely with them and the Department of Education.’
