Deliveroo surprised hungry Cork customers on Thursday evening by performing its first delivery by rowing boat along the River Lee.
Having delivered food orders to customers along the banks of the Grand Canal in Dublin last year, Deliveroo has set its sights on trialling water-based delivery in Cork City this summer with the help and navigation of UCC Rowing Club.
The first delivery took place on Thursday, with precious goods from Uncle Pete’s restaurant delivered by Deliveroo and the rowing club. The lucky customers were served up delicious food as they enjoyed they relaxed along the river bank.
Joe Groves from Deliveroo said, “We’re just on the cusp of the Irish summer, and no one should have to be confined to their homes when ordering great-tasting food.
“We are always looking to trial new methods of delivery. Whether you’re at home, your workplace or by the banks of a river soaking up the sun, we’ve got you.”
UCC Rowing Club is one of University College Cork’s most prestigious and experienced sports clubs.
David Breen of UCC Rowing Club said, “When Deliveroo approached us to be riders we really didn’t think they wanted us to stay on water, but I guess we’re pretty speedy. It doesn’t hurt that we’re big fans too – Deliveroo’s savage, the team orders it all the time”.
