Fianna Fáil TD for Cork North West Michael Moynihan has called for assurances from the Minister for Housing, Planning & Local Government that there will be no further delay to the construction of a new Fire Station in Kanturk.
Deputy Moynihan commented, “The current fire station has been unfit for purpose for some time, and as far back as February 2016 Fine Gael promised funds for a new station. It’s now three years later and we are only at the tender stage. Even if the tender approval is made quickly it will take take almost a year for the station to be built.
“This is a badly needed facility for north Cork. The fact that it has taken this long to get this far is completely unacceptable.
“We need a modern day fire station – the current proposal includes a two vehicle fire house with watch rooms, bathroom, workshop, drill yard and parking. This will make a huge difference to the firefighters based in Kanturk.
“It is imperative that there are no further delays to this project. We have already been waiting years for a new station to be sanctioned and approved. The funding was signed off on in 2016 and there is no reason why the contract should be delayed any further”, concluded Deputy Moynihan.
