This evening Down Syndrome Cork will host a fundraising event in the Clayton Hotel, Silver Springs with one of Ireland’s best loved chefs Neven Maguire. The event, which kicks off at 6.30pm will see Neven share his top tips on how to recreate some of his delicious dishes with a cookery demonstration. Tickets for the event are €20 and all proceeds on the night will go to Down Syndrome Cork and the DSCork Field of Dreams. Under the National organisation of Down Syndrome Ireland, DSCork provides lifelong support for their members born with Down syndrome and their families in Cork city and county.
The event, which is sponsored by Dunnes Stores will see attendees treated to a Simply Better Cava reception and Simply Better’s Irish made and award winning lemonade on arrival. This event is the perfect opportunity for Neven’s followers and food lovers in Cork to taste the wonderful wares of the Simply Better collection, many of the products, produced by artisan food producers in Cork.
On the night, attendees will also get the chance to meet many of the local Cork food producers who are part of the award winning Simply Better collection. Dunnes Stores are providing goody bags and vouchers for everyone and there is a wide range of fantastic prizes to be won including B&B and dinner at Neven Maguire’s award winning MacNean House in Cavan.
Since its inception, DSCork are ‘Sharing the Journey’ with their members by offering an extensive range of innovative tailor made therapies from early intervention right through to the wonderful adult education training facility in the Field of Dreams.
DSCork are pioneers in providing support having started with one speech and language therapist 11 years ago. Now they offer a comprehensive speech and language therapy service to all ages from birth, including occupational therapy and physical therapy. Building self esteem and confidence are addressed in their wide range of social and educational remit. Education is of paramount importance and they engage both with the schools, the parents and the children.
The Field of Dreams has been a tremendous success with the first two year cycle of the adult training programme coming to fruition this summer. With still three months to the end of the course, already there are three out of the eight adults successful in obtaining employment from this new initiative. All eight adults have completed their QQI Level 3. DS Cork are continuing to link with potential employers to obtain employment opportunities for the remaining students in the Field of Dreams. A new two year course for 22 participants will commence in September 2019.
Commenting ahead of the event, Karen of DSCork said “We are really looking forward to the event on Monday April 29th and I want to encourage everyone to come along and join us for a really special evening with Neven Maguire and some of the wonderful producers from the Simply Better collection. We would like to give a special thanks to our sponsors, Dunnes Stores, who have been very generous and always so supportive of DS Cork and Field of Dreams. Their encouragement and backing is greatly appreciated.”
