The Government’s decision to proceed with investment in the Cork City Event Centre is another major boost to the city, a Fine Gael Senator has said.
Jerry Buttimer, Leader of Seanad Eireann and Cork Fine Gael Senator said: “I welcome the clarity and certainty that this announcement provides. The delivery of a world-class event centre in the heart of Cork city will be a major boost to the Munster region. I welcome the Attorney Generals advice which allows for investment in this significant project which offers a great opportunity for Cork.
“I wish to congratulate my constituency colleague, an Tánaiste Simon Coveney on his leadership, persistence, determination and ongoing commitment to the Cork Event Centre project. When others doubted he diligently persevered and delivered on the project.
“The Construction of this much-needed events centre along with the project commitments in Ireland 2040 will allow Cork to unlock its potential. This Government has repeatedly shown its confidence in Cork through supporting vital capital infrastructure projects.
“It’s vital now that the construction phase commences. People rightly want to see concrete being poured, pylons sunk and workmen on site.
“This news is transformative for the people of Cork and our proud city. Now we can attend concerts, attract international conferences and offer a real alternative to Dublin,” Senator Buttimer said.
