Maldron Hotel South Mall, Cork’s newest 4-star City Centre hotel has opened its doors in time for Christmas. The hotel, located in the heart of the city’s business, shopping and entertainment district is the first to be built in 14 years.
Once the old Fire Offices and School of Anatomy for UCC, Maldron Hotel South Mall was purchased by Dalata in 2016 as a 125 bedroom with additional work commencing in 2017 at a total cost of €30 million.
The long-awaited opening of the four-star hotel which is owned and operated by Dalata Hotel Group, Ireland’s leading hotel operator, features 163 bedrooms, two restaurants, a bar, a cafe and 5 state of the art meeting rooms to cater for both leisure and business guests. As well as the Grain and Grill Bar & Restaurant, Maldron South Mall will also feature The Italian Kitchen which will open its doors in Spring. The Italian Kitchen is a standalone restaurant offering authentic Italian dining with a choice of antipasti and stone baked pizzas all complemented by an exquisite range of wines.
Maldron Hotel South Mall is passionate about fresh, high quality, local food – using exceptional, locally-sourced ingredients from the English Market for the menu of the Grain and Grill Bar & Restaurant. With healthy and hearty meals to choose from, guests and visitors to the hotel will experience the true taste of Cork when dining.
The extensive ground floor will also be home to Red Bean Roastery, Dalata Hotel Group’s own coffee brand prepared by expert baristas. The café, which will stay open until 8pm – 7 days a week, will serve delicious homemade treats throughout the day with sharing boards available in the evening.
The new Maldron Hotel South Mall is the latest in a series of hotel launches and refurbishments to the Maldron Hotel network throughout Ireland following a multi-million-euro investment.
Robert McCarthy, General Manager of Maldron Hotel South Mall said, “We are delighted to officially open Maldron Hotel South Mall and rebuild areas of Parnell Place and Beasley Street which have sat derelict for 30 years. We are especially proud that this addition to Corks City Centre has resulted in the creation of 100 jobs which will rise to 130 once the Italian Kitchen restaurant section opens later in the year”.
Situated in the heart of Cork City Centre and at the banks of the River Lee, Maldron Hotel South Mall offers great value accommodation in a perfect location for guests looking to explore local attractions and the bustling nightlife that Cork has to offer. Voted as one of the world’s friendliest cities according to Condé Nast Traveller’s annual reader survey, the hotel is in an ideal location for both business and leisure guests.
Donna Mannion, Sales & Marketing Manager at Maldron Hotel South Mall said, “We are very excited to officially open the doors and welcome guests and visitors to Maldron Hotel South Mall. With this new addition to Cork City Centre we are offering guests affordable, stylish and comfortable accommodation with the heart of the city on their doorstep”.
