The upcoming visit to Fermoy weir by Sean Kyne TD, Minister of State for Natural Resources has been welcomed by Cork East Fine Gael TD and Minister of State at the Department of Justice, David Stanton. Minister Kyne is due to arrive in Fermoy at 11am on Tuesday, 16 October.
“I am pleased that Minister Kyne has accepted my invitation to come to Fermoy to see the weir himself to ascertain what works may need to be done. As Minister Kyne’s responsibility is in the area of natural resources his primary concern is for the preservation of salmon stocks in the Blackwater”, noted Minister Stanton.
“In addition to viewing the current condition of the weir, I expect Minister Kyne will be holding a number of discussions with a view to reaching a long term and viable solution for the weir.
“Fermoy weir is not just important for its role in ensuring we meet our environmental and fish and wildlife conservation commitments in the Blackwater but it also has a vital role in ensuring continued leisure use of the river such as angling, canoeing and boating.
