Labour Party Local Area Representative in Cork Peter Horgan has criticised Minister Brendan Griffin for reverting to the same old craic and tactics with the new Sports Capital announcement.
“Government TDs, Senators and Candidates were tweeting mightily the other night that €40 million is to be allocated for the 2018 Sports Capital Funding but we have no official statement from the Department and no date for applications,” said Mr Horgan.
“What this does is again over politicise the process, which is disappointing given the hassle after the last round highlighted such activity. It should be a merit system not a system as in previous years where whomever types or rings first gains credit. It is not about credit, it is about supporting our clubs and communities and the Minister would do well to remember that. If there is to be a new round of funding and not some snap election gimmick then he must publish the terms and the deadlines this week.”
