It is unusual to think that a new dole office opening is a cause for celebration, but these days such offices provide more than Jobseekers Benefit and Jobseekers Allowance (as the dole is now technically called). Department of Social Protection ‘Intreo’ offices provide a host of information about benefits ranging from Back to Education Allowances to routine Pension enquiries.
Cork North West TD, Aindrias Moynihan has welcomed confirmation from the Department of Social Protection that the new location for the Social Welfare Office in Macroom will be Millstreet Road, Gurteenroe, Macroom, Co Cork.
Following on from a representation I made to Minister Doherty, the TD said
“Nearly two years on from the closure of the former office, this is welcome news for the local community.
“As many will remember, the last office closed that the former manager retired. When a new Branch Manager was appointed, the search for a new premises began.
“Many people who had to use social protection services to obtain, for example, a PPS number and card, had to travel to Cork City to obtain one as the temporary office was not in a position to deliver such services.
“I will keep the pressure on the Minister and the Department to ensure that there is no further slippage with regards to the reopening of the new office. This saga has been ongoing for far too long,” concluded Moynihan.
