The Flagship of MSC Cruises and the largest Cruise ship to ever visit Cork will arrive in the Harbour town of Cobh on Sunday 6th May. Carrying 5700 guests and with a gross tonnage of 167,600 tonnes, the MSC Meraviglia is the largest but not the longest Cruise ship to berth in Cobh, exceeding the weight of Independence of the Seas by 13000 tonnes.
Cobh will roll out the red carpet with a host of entertainment and markets set up in the park on the waterside on both Sunday and Bank Holiday Monday. “There’s a cruise ship visiting virtually every other day over the next two weeks”, says Fionnghuala Smith the Chairperson of Cobh Tourism. “This is fantastic for Cobh and for the entire region as passengers get a taste of Irish hospitality and enjoy World Class attractions. The convenience of stepping off a ship and having a beautiful town brimming with things to do results in very happy Cruise passengers and provides an important boost to the local economy”.
The ship is on an 11-day cruise to and from Hamburg that visits Scotland, Dublin, Cobh and Southampton. It will primarily sail to the Norwegian Fjords throughout the summer, returning to Cobh at the end of August and then sailing the Mediterranean throughout the Autumn.
