We all know that playing the Lotto (now referred to as the Lottery by officials) is a gamble. In recent years bookmakers have started to allowed people to bet on the the Lotto numbers. This has been a positive eye opener for many as it highlights just how poor the odds are. While a Lottery ticket doesn’t mention odds, a betting slip certainly does.
Well, one Cork punter over came ods of 33,000/1 and finished the year off in style when pulling off a coup in Friday night’s EuroMillions draw.
The lucky punter placed a simple 50 cent in one of BoyleSports’ Cork stores on the numbers 12, 14, 16 and 26 to be drawn in the EuroMillons Plus draw.
When all four numbers dropped the bet clicked, beating the unlikely odds of 33,000/1. With the stake returned the customer walked away with a cool €16,500.50, eight times the amount paid out for four numbers if they had been wagered in the local newsagents.
The latest winner becomes the second BoyleSports customer in Cork to bag a significant festive payout after another customer won €8,500 from a series of tiny bets just before Christmas.
Lawrence Lyons, Spokesperson for BoyleSports commented: “We’re beginning to wonder if there’s something in the water down in Cork as we’re paying out another big winner on our Lotto betting, this time walking off with €16,500 from just a 50 cent bet.”
He added: “We offer huge congratulations to the punter, they have proved that you don’t have to bet big to win big and we hope they enjoy wreaking havoc in the January sales!”
