Cork South West Fine Gael TD and Minister of State at the Department of Health, Jim Daly, is hosting a public meeting on Internet Safety on December 11th in the West Lodge Hotel in Bantry at 8pm.
The public meeting is a follow on from an initiative launched by Minister Daly in early November, which saw the Minister in associated with iKydz gift each primary school in West Cork with an internet safety device that will aid teachers in their continuous efforts to safeguard pupils.
Speaking on the public meeting Minister Daly said, ‘This has been a long standing issue for me, we need to protect our children more online and reduce the chances they have of stumbling across harmful websites. This public meeting will do just that, it will inform parents, guardians and teachers alike on ways we can protect children from the negative effects of unsupervised and long periods children and teenagers spend on the internet. ‘
Minister Daly confirmed the speakers on the night as Sinead Glennon, Head of Mental Head Services in Cork & Kerry and John Molly, CEO of iKydz, an internet safety company which was short-listed for Irish Times 2017 Innovation Awards.
Concluding the Minister said, ‘This will be an extremely informative meeting and I encourage all parents and guardians to attend. The speakers on the night are at the forefront of online safety and will be able to offer advice, guidance and answer any questions people may have.
