Marymount is holding its annual Light Up a Life Ceremony in its facility in Curraheen, on Sunday 3rd December from 3pm to 5.30pm. The Light Up a Life Ceremony is a special occasion for the hospital and hospice for people to gather together to watch the Christmas lights being switched on as well as enjoy entertainment from the Army Band, Frankfield Gospel Choir and a local Children’s Choir.
Marymount is open to the public on the day with festive stalls and tea and coffee available to all visitors.
“We would like to encourage people to come to our Light Up a Life Ceremony here at Marymount on Sunday 3rd December from 3pm to 5pm,” said Paula McGovern, Head of Fundraising and Communications at Marymount. “It’s a very special and poignant event. Christmas can be a difficult time for people in sensitive situations and our Light Up a Life ceremony is a very symbolic way of us joining together and lighting up our facility here in Marymount.”
People can sponsor lights on the Marymount Christmas tree in person on the day or online at https://lightupalife.marymount.ie where they can also write a dedicated message to a loved one. “This is the first year we have launched on online memorial tree and it’s very popular so far and will be available to everyone for the whole Christmas season. People can write a message to a loved one and share it with their friends and family. The Tree is filling up fast with messages so please do share your own dedication on the tree.”
As well as a significant symbolic event, Marymount’s Light Up a Life appeal is also an important fundraising campaign for the hospice, which needs to raise €3 million every year to continue to provide its existing services. In 2016 alone Marymount supported more than 3,000 families across Cork City and County. “We are indebted to the people of Cork for supporting Marymount as much as they do and as often. It really is due to people’s generosity that we are here in our great facility in Curraheen. I would like to invite the people of Cork to attend our Light Up a Life ceremony so they can see the service and facility for themselves.”
