Ballincollig celebrated the ‘Switching on of the Lights’ at Castle West Shopping Centre last Friday, December 1st. The little twinkling beacons were ignited by Amy Jones, the Belle of Ballincollig, to the excitement and applause of the gathered crowd.
Ninety-eight, fourth class children from Gaelscoil Uí Riordáin provided an atmospheric medley of Christmas favourites led by their teachers Áine Mhic Con Uladh, Clíodhna Ní Chatháin and Emma Ní Shuilleabháin.
Additional musical delights were provided by the sweet voices of Ceol na Laoi, a Ballincollig community choir, directed by Caz Jefferys.
Emer Cassidy, Chairperson of the Ballincollig Business Association said: “We’re delighted to see so many families from Ballincollig come out and see the turning on of the Christmas lights. It’s an important occasion not just for the business community but for everyone who lives and works here as it really signals the start of the season.
“People can also keep an eye out for our “12 Days of Christmas” promotion on Facebook again this year, where we will be giving away €100 vouchers in the lead-up to Christmas, courtesy of some of our member businesses”.
It’s definitely beginning to look a lot like Christmas in Ballincollig Town Centre which will be donned with sparkle and shine for the whole of December.
