Average bus fares to drop by 46% for Ballincollig residents
Cork North West TD, Aindrias Moynihan has said that Ballincollig commuters are set for an early Christmas present as bus fares are set to drop by up to 46% from December 1st.
Deputy Moynihan was commenting ahead of the proposed reduction in bus fares following the decision of the NTA to extend the city fare zone to Ballincollig and other suburbs of the city.
“Those who make use of Leap cards will see major reductions in their weekly commuter costs.
“I would advise people who aren’t currently using Leap cards to really consider making the switch. There are massive savings to be made by using a Leap card.
“There are approximately 4000 daily bus journeys between Ballincollig and Cork City and vice versa on the 220 and 220X services. Those who use the service daily will see major savings.
“If you are a student or are working in the city and living in Ballincollig, it’s definitely worth getting a Leap card.
“As we see reductions in fares, and hopefully a greater take-up of public bus services, Bus Éireann need to invest in increased capacity and frequency to ensure that would be commuters have confidence in the service,” concluded Moynihan.
