Cork Senator Jerry Buttimer has extended his congratulations to his Fine Gael colleagues on their new appointments.
Senator Buttimer said: “Simon Coveney is a Minister of the highest calibre, and I am delighted to see him appointed as Tánaiste.
“It’s great to see a Tánaiste from Cork and this is very good news for the city and county.
“Simon has been a good friend for many years and his appointment is a testament to his dedication and commitment.
“I also wish to extent my warm congratulations to Minister Josepha Madigan on her promotion to cabinet as Minister for Culture, Heritage and the Gaeltacht.
“The former incumbent, Minister Heather Humphreys, did an excellent job in the role. The 1916 Centenary Commemorations and the Creative Ireland programme have been monumental successes.
“I wish Minister Madigan the very best in her new role.
“I also want to wish Minister Humphreys the very best of luck in her new position as Minister for Business, Enterprise and Innovation.
“The business portfolio is a very important position, particularly in light of Brexit. I know Minister Humphreys will make a fine appointment to the role,” Senator Buttimer said.
