Mayor of the County of Cork, Cllr Declan Hurley and Chief Executive of Cork County Council, Tim Lucey, today conveyed their congratulations to all the participants and winners in this year’s National Tidy Towns competition with a record breaking 870 towns and villages competing.
Commenting on the Cork successes, Mayor Hurley said “I would like to express my thanks to all the volunteers and winners in each of our Tidy Towns groups County wide. Their dedication and personal sacrifice in making our towns and villages better places to live and work in is truly inspiring. Cork has again achieved great success in the competition and it clearly shows the way forward in community participation and how it makes our lives better. Cork County Council will continue to work with all towns and villages who enter into this worthwhile competition and continue to support them in any way we can”.
This year Clonakilty received the National award for Ireland’s Tidiest Small Town. A gold-medal winner in 2016, Clonakilty was awarded second place in the Cork County Council Anti Litter Challenge for 2017 and was also nominated in Pride of Place awards for 2017.
7 Gold, 5 Silver and 8 Bronze medals were awarded across Cork County in the 2017 awards. Carrigaline was also a winner with the National Clean Air award and local Authority Pollinator award.
Cork County Council Chief Executive Tim Lucey went to say, “Tidy towns organisations and their communities add significantly to the quality of what we have in Cork County and I compliment and congratulate all towns and villages who have achieved national recognition.”
