The Lord Mayor of Cork, Cllr Tony Fitzgerald (Fianna Fail) has started one of the oldest traditions of his office: the Lord Mayoral visit to primary and secondary schools in the city.
This year, the Lord Mayor will encourage the children of Cork to learn our national anthem – Amhrán na bhFiann. He will visit 95 schools during the year.
Lord Mayor Cllr Tony Fitzgerald said: “To mark the visit I will be making a gift to each school pupil of a card with the words of our national anthem – Amhrán na bhFiannn. It is my strong belief that every child in Cork should know the words of our national anthem. Pride in our country and culture is formed in the schools. I hope this year to hear that pride echo through the halls and corridors of Cork schools.”
