Sinn Féin TD Donnchadh O Laoghaire has called for all those who support Irish unity to work together to achieve it.
Speaking in Derry at a debate on Irish unity as part of Gasyard Feile ’17, the Cork South Central TD said:
“The next few years will change the course of Irish history.
“It is now time to start actively planning for reunification by having a mature and inclusive discussion on what the new agreed Ireland will look like.
“Many factors, including Brexit have now put the issue of Irish unity firmly on the political agenda.
“It is now time to start actively planning for reunification by having a mature and inclusive discussion on what the new agreed Ireland will look like.
“We now need to see all those who support Irish unity North and South working together to secure a referendum on a united Ireland and creating the conditions where we can win it.
“No one has anything to fear from Irish unity, and it is now up to us who support it to create a new republic where everyone’s rights are protected and celebrated.”
