The Ireland Under 18 men’s team have been dealt another blow this afternoon as it was announced that BFG Neptune star, Cian Heaphy, has been ruled out of the remainder of the tournament.
Heaphy, who was one of the stand-out players in Ireland’s opening game clash against Belgium on Friday evening (which the lads in green lost by 69-58 points), picked up an injury towards the end of the game and was officially ruled out of the remainder of the championships this morning.
The news comes just a couple of days after Heaphy’s club mate, Adam Drummond, was also ruled out of the squad due to injury.
Speaking about the news, Head Coach, Conor James said: “We’re devastated for Cian. He was, and still is, a huge part of the team with a role yet to play. We have every confidence that other players will step up in his absence.”
Ireland continue their European Championships campaign today, playing Switzerland at 4.15pm Irish time. You can find out more about the games, including the links to the live stream, here.
