Cork City Women’s FC will be looking to make it two wins in a row as they host Galway WFC in the Continental Tyre’s Women’s National League at the Bishops town Stadium this Saturday 22nd of July with kick off at 5pm.
The game comes on the back of a 3-0 victory away to Kilkenny United WFC with two goals from Clare Shine and a goal for Saoirse Noonan. City will be hoping to carry this form into Saturday’s clash against Galway WFC whom City beat 2-0 at Eamonn Deacy Park in their last meeting.
Speaking ahead of the clash with Galway WFC Cork City WFC midfielder Stacey Paul said this; “The group are looking forward to a home league game as the last time we played at home in the league was back in May. We had an excellent win last week in Kilkenny especially after they enjoyed their first win the previous week and it was a difficult game but we showed our worth to get out with a clean sheet and three goals. We are now really building momentum but so are Galway who have some good results against the top sides in the league, most noticeably the win over Peamount. The game will be an exciting one especially with the Football Festival taking place so no doubt there will be a good showing. Galway will be well up for this game especially after we defeated them 2-0 in their home ground in the reverse fixture and we really will need to be on top form to get the result we have worked hard for this week in training.”
Cork City WFC coach Cathal Lordan had this to say; “We’re looking forward to the game this weekend against Galway. Obviously coming off the back of a 3-0 win in Kilkenny has given us a lot of confidence so we feel confident going into this weekend. We played Galway a couple of months back in the earlier rounds of the league and we had a good result away from home so its just about maintaining our winning form at the moment and keeping that up, giving the players confidence and keeping that run going.”
There will be the Continental Tyre’s Festival of Football Roadshow at Bishops town before the match beginning at 4pm.
City have been drawn against Lakewood Athletic in the First round of the Continental Tyres FAI Women’s Senior Cup with the date to be confirmed.
