The Department of Social Protection will be hosting a special “Springboard Training Expo” in its Intreo Centre at Abbey Court House, George’s Quay, Cork city on Wednesday 19th July. The event will have representatives from a range of training providers with Springboard in Cork’s CIT, UCC, Innopharmalabs, GetReSkilled and Griffith College offering information and advice to jobseekers on courses they may wish to pursue in September for the new academic year. All of these courses are free.
Over 32 courses are available, some of which are part-time, others are full-time and more can be completed online. The courses are varied and range from Level 6 to Level 9. Local jobseekers will have the opportunity to hear first-hand from the representatives at the event about the courses and discuss which might be the course that best suits them.
Maria Hurley, Divisional Manager for the Department of Social Protection, Cork urged all jobseekers in Cork to attend: “This is a fantastic opportunity for jobseekers living in Cork city and its environs. This initiative in higher education offers courses at certificate, degree and masters level which lead to qualifications in areas that in turn will lead to better employment opportunities.”
The event runs from 12.00 noon until 4.00pm and all jobseekers are invited to attend. There is no charge. People attending are asked to bring their PPS Card for registration purposes.
Springboard courses can also be undertaken by homemakers who wish to re-enter the workforce. Such homemakers will need to complete a Declaration which can be signed before a Commissioner for Oaths.
