A fun day of fitness and wellbeing activities for all the family takes place on Sunday, 20th August at the Regional Park in Ballincollig, Co Cork as part of National Heritage Week.
This festival event is the first of its kind in Cork and is being organised by Jen and Niall O’Callaghan of Everyday NFW and Catherine Hassett of Ballincollig Health & Wellbeing Magazine and is supported by Cork County Council Physical Activity and Wellbeing Office.
Speaking ahead of the event, Jen O’Callaghan said, “Whether you want to kick start a new wellness regime, learn new skills or introduce your children to wellbeing, this day is for you and your family. It’s about feeling good and looking after your mental, physical and emotional wellbeing. But more importantly it’s about having fun and enjoying the outdoors. Picture the park full of fitness classes, inspirational talks, foraging and mindfulness walks, yoga classes, good local food and lots of fun”.
“We will set up a number of stage areas around the Park for activities such as yoga, tai chi, pilates, zumba and high intensity training. We will have a designated kids area where they can enjoy yoga, zumba, mindfulness and other fun activities. During the day celebrities and local elite sports people including Olympian Sanita Puspure, former Cork footballers Juliet Murphy and Pa Kelly and Sinead Kane, the 1st Irish female to run 7 marathons on 7 continents in 7 days. Neil O’Brien and Gerry Hussey, both performance psychologists and coaches to elite Irish athletes, will take part in workshops and panel discussions on nutrition, mental fitness, resilience and positive psychology,” said Niall O’Callaghan.
Niall continued, “Various fund-raising activities will be carried out on the day in lieu of an admission fee on behalf of local charities such as Westgate Foundation, Ballincollig Tidy Towns, Irish Guide Dogs, Ballincollig First Responders. This event is being organised on a voluntary basis and we are extremely thankful for all the support received to date, especially our main sponsors Quish’s SuperValu and O’Flynn Construction and from Cork County Council for the use of the park. We hope everyone has an exciting day and enjoys all that this wonderful civic amenity has to offer”.
Catherine Hassett said, “This is a great community event showcasing all of the excellent service providers we have locally. We will be sharing updates and details of the day’s activities on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram and details will be available as the public arrive on the day”.
The event runs from 10am- 5pm and is suitable for all ages. Entry is free. Additional car parking facilities will be provided on the day.
