UCC Sport, representing all sports clubs at University College Cork selected CUH Charity as their official charity partner for 2016/2017 and chose to focus their fundraising efforts on the Children’s Unit Appeal.
As a result of many student-led fundraising activities over the last nine months, they recently presented CUH Charity with a cheque to the value of €13,979.78! Two University College Cork students, Jonathan Keane, UCC Skydiving Secretary 2016/17, and Kate O’Meara, UCC Dance Captain 2016/17, represented the two clubs which together accounted for over €5,000. UCC Sport is made up of 59 clubs including Badminton, Chess, Motorbiking, Trampoline, Skydive and Dance to name but a few who organised fundraising events throughout the year.
Declan Kidney (Director of DSPA), Michael Hanrahan (President 2016/17) and Oliwier Melon (Vice-President 2017/18) also attended the recent cheque presentation on behalf of UCC Clubs’ Executive, UCC Students’ Union and the rest of the sports clubs who all contributed to UCC Sport’s overall total of €14k.
These much needed funds will be used by CUH Charity to support CUH Children’s Unit in providing state-of-the-art care and equipment for patients with a wide range of illnesses, including Cystic Fibrosis, Diabetes and Epilepsy as well as helping to improve parent sleeping facilities at the Children’s Unit.
