Almost €50,000 has been awarded by the Arts Council to five separate groups and organisations in Cork to help young people engage in the arts.
The funding has been confirmed as part of the Art Council’s popular Young Ensembles Scheme. In total, €48, 165 has been awarded to five Cork-based groups following a funding application process which ran earlier this year.
Local groups which were successful include Dowtcha Puppets, Graffiti Theatre Company, Irish Association of Youth Orchestras, the Lewis Glucksman Gallery @ UCC and the No Kissin’ Ensemble.
Projects which will be enabled by the Arts Council funding deal with shadow puppetry, orchestral music, scriptwriting, and using art to provide positive experiences for teenagers living in direct provision.
Director of the Arts Council, Orlaith McBride, said: “I am delighted that a number of organisations and groups in Cork are set to benefit from this funding. It will help create positive and rewarding artistic and cultural experiences for young people, and also help to develop art in the local community.”
The Arts Council’s Young Ensembles Scheme support groups of young people between the ages of 12 and 23 to create ambitious and original work together in any art form. This may include architecture, circus, dance, digital media, film, music, theatre, literature, visual arts or any combination of the above.
