Dowtcha Puppets have built some jaw-dropping bonfire sculptures with local youth groups as part of Cork City Council’s family friendly Bonfire Night celebrations tomorrow Friday, June 23. This is the 10th anniversary of the hugely successful event,
Young people created sculptures with Dowtcha Puppets in parks at Mahon, Togher and Knocknaheeny.
Major outdoor events are planned in five Cork City Council parks including games, sports, bouncy castles, face painting, local music etc.
Last year, over 13,000 people attended the Bonfire Night Family Friendly Events, with 40 local community groups and over 150 volunteers involved in their delivery.
Lord Mayor, Cllr Tony Fitzgerald said: “The Bonfire Night Project’s aim is to provide alternative, safe, family friendly activities on the night and it has made a big difference in reducing previously negative events. Gardaí, Fire Services and Cork City Council Parks staff confirmed last year that the number of dangerous bonfires has decreased hugely in recent years”
“Local community groups and volunteers are at the heart of each of Cork City Council’s family friendly Bonfire Night celebrations. The involvement and participation of these groups and volunteers is a key factor in delivering such a successful night”.
