The Seandun (A Region of Macra in Co Cork) AGM was held on Wednesday June 7th in Boole 1 UCC. This meeting marked the end of the 2016-2017 Macra calendar for Seandun in what was a hugely successful year for the region. During the year, Seandun clubs brought home a total of 3 National Titles and finished as runner-up in several competitions. In addition there were countless social and sporting outings organised throughout the year whilst Macra membership in the region continues to grow.
Training Development Officer Jerry Murphy was in attendance and congratulated the region on its achievements over the last 12 months.
Awards
At the meeting the winner of the Seandun Club of the Year was announced. This year the title went to Glanmire Macra who have had an increadly successful year, increasing membership by 25 new members in the last 12 months alone as well as brining home a National Volleyball Title and finishing as National runners-up in bowling.
Seandun has an very successful history in the Club of the Year competition at a National level where the previous Seandun winners have been named as National Runners-Up each year for the past 4 years. Also on the night Kinsale were announced as Seandun’s Most Improved Club after increasing membership, reaching the National Capers Final and coming runners-up in the National Final of Drama.
Kinsale were also awarded Seandun PRO of the Year which was given to Selina O’Donovan while Seandun PRO Book of the Year went to Laura O’ Donovan of Carrigaline Macra.
Election
Following this the election of officers for the coming year was held presided by former Seandun Chairperson John O’Sullivan. Remaining on as President and Vice-President are William Wright, Kinsale and Elaine Doyle, Knockraha respectively. The top table remains largely unchanged with Eilis Ahern, Carrigaline remaining on as Chairperson, Aislinn Collins, Carrigaline staying on as treasurer and Kathleen Fitzgerald, Glanmire keeping up her role as PRO for the second year in a row. A new addition to the top table however was Sarah O’ Connell, Glanmire who was newly elected to the position of Secretary. Also staying on for a second year in their respective roles are Paul O’ Regan, Kinsale (competitions), Rita Dineen, Whitechurch (Social & Travel),Robert John Barry, Knockraha (Young Farmer Development Group) and Tanya O’ Sullivan, Glanmire (Rural Youth) who will be newly assisted this year by Aine Minchin, Carrigaline. Niall Nicholson, Carrigaline will also maintain his role as IFA officer for the region over the coming year. Newly elected to the committee are Nadine Long, Cork City to the position of Development & Education Officer and Sean Ahern, Glanmire to Sports.
The new committee will dive straight into the new year this weekend when Seandun host the National Final of Creative Challenge at the Cork Summer Show on Sunday June 18th. Carrigaline and Knockraha will both contest the competition from the Seandun region. Later this month Seandun will go night-time kayaking at Reen Pier in West Cork on Sunday June 25th. There is no doubt that Seandun Macra members will be kept just as busy over the coming 12 months and as this year marks the 60th year since the foundation of Seandun, it promises to be a very exciting 12 months.
