Cork City travel to Dundalk tonight for an eagerly awaited top of the table clash. Kick-off is at 7.30pm with the game live on RTE 2.
The Rebel Army remain unbeaten this season with 15 wins and a single draw, the draw coming away from home against Galway United early last month. Having fallen behind in their previous two games, against Sligo Rovers and Shamrock Rovers, City have shown the character and strength in their squad to come from behind and win in back-to-back games.
The sides’ previous meeting took place at sold out Turner’s Cross, where City ran out 2-1 winners with Karl Sheppard scoring two outstanding goals.
Speaking to the media ahead of the game, John Caulfield said: “Every game is a big game for us these days but we have to keep taking it week by week. Our focus has been really good this week. We all know that Dundalk will be a difficult game and we need to be right for this game. We are really looking forward to it. The run we are on has been superb but it is all behind us now. We will go into this game full of confidence and know we will need to be on top of our game and give an outstanding performance.
Our total focus is to go there and get three points. Fridays result will not define the season. We are only half way through the season. There is a long way to go. There is a serious amount of games to be played in July and August, points will be dropped and there will be lots of twists and turns. All we can do if keep focused on ourselves.”
On the injury front Sean Maguire is fit despite picked up a gash on his leg last Friday night.
Alan Bennett, Garry Buckley and Steven Beattie have trained this week, but will all be assessed ahead of the game tomorrow.
