Fianna Fáil TD for Cork East, Kevin O’Keeffe has said that the paltry €1 million allocation from Transport Infrastructure Ireland to engage in preliminary works on the promised M20 motorway project is an insult to the people of Cork and Limerick.
“Sanctioning €1million is an attempt by Minister Ross to deflect away from the abject failure of the current, and previous, government to deliver on this motorway project.
“Unless Minister Ross receives approval from the Department of Public Expenditure, as part of the Mid-Term Capital Review, for the full delivery of this project, the people of Cork will be waiting potentially decades for this motorway linking Cork and Limerick, and opening up rural North Cork.
“This attempt at buying off the local people with an announcement of €1 million will be seen through by all.
“Minister Ross needs to push the Government to provide the full level of funding to deliver the project as part of the Capital Review. Anything less will be a failure.
“In my own party’s submission to the review, we prioritised the delivery of funding for the M20 project,” concluded O’Keeffe.
